These two quotes were printed next to each other in the 13th June 1964 issue of The Motor:
"We want to create a buyer resistance to small cars and to arouse demands by customers for more safety devices." New York Police Commissioner.
"I can't deny that the bigger a car is the safer it is but what we are trying to do is build the safest possible small car." Ralph Miller, president of Saab Motors of America.
How times (and attitudes to size – in some things at least) have changed!
